I Miss The Apprentice on NBC

Let me take you back to late 2015. A young Matthew Spencer was in his junior year of High School without a care in the world. I had a hot girlfriend, my own car, and good friends that let me cheat off of them in Pre-Calc. I was doing literally anything besides watching The Apprentice, but knowing it was on meant Donald Trump was in a corner office, not the Oval Office. Four years, three government shutdowns, two articles of impeachment, and one direct look at a solar eclipse later... we are shaft deep in a pandemic that seems like it will never end.

Since 2016 I’ve done my best to just ignore everything. I knew I was gonna vote against Trump if he ran for reelection, so why get roped into the hoopla. Barring him either completely reversing the effects of climate change or bringing Elvis back from the dead there was nothing that was going to change my mind. Which, if we can all be honest with ourselves, is part of the problem. Trump is such a douche with no filter, tact, self-awareness…the list keeps going…that he has become the most polarizing man in America.

Being polarizing isn’t really a problem if you are an athlete or a celebrity or even just a normal ass person. But in politics, it has caused party lines to move even further apart than ever before. The US government does not work with both sides refusing to compromise, and we have seen that play-out year after year since 2016.

The right points it’s finger at the left and says, “You never even gave him a chance, he played the system right and won!”

So the left points the finger at the right and says, “Well the system is broken and you know that shit, besides your guy is a fucking asshole!”

Then both sides throw tantrums, nothing gets done, and I get no peace watching the Lions lose on Thanksgiving.

Maybe we were headed to this place no matter who won the election in 2016, and we will never be able to turn the clock back and find out. But all I know is that I really miss not watching The Apprentice and having a hot girlfriend.
